Project Description

On 24th October 2014, a spicejet aircraft hit a jackal on the runway while landing. This caused a panic and could have resulted in loss of several lives. Upon invitation from the forest officers of Madhya Pradesh forest department at Indore, a team of WFS officials went to assist in the matter. After a thorough examination of the incidence and a detailed site visit, recommendations and plan of action was proposed to the involved agencies. This included short term strategies to minimise the problem and long term strategies to make sure that such incidence do not occur again in future. Based on the recommendations of WFS, both, forest department and airport authorities took the necessary steps. Forest department managed to successfully trap Jackals from the premises and shifted them to nearby forest areas where as airport authorities took on to cleaning the premises of unnecessary vegetation and strengthening the perimeter of the air field to avoid free movement of animals.
